Before you and your friends all buy Halloween: The Game, spend two minutes on this page. The platform picture is mostly good news — full crossplay at launch — with exactly one confirmed limitation that regularly surprises groups: progress does not follow you between platforms.
Which Platforms Is Halloween: The Game On?
The game launched digitally on September 8, 2026 on:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
- PC — both Steam and the Epic Games Store
There is no last-generation version: if you are still on PS4 or Xbox One, this title is not coming to those consoles. The game overview covers the release timeline, including the physical editions that followed the digital launch.
Does Halloween: The Game Have Crossplay?
Yes — confirmed. IllFonic announced full crossplay across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, so any combination of platforms can share a lobby. The confirmed launch feature list includes:
- Private Matches — configure your own lobbies
- Duplicate Civilian Characters — two players can pick the same survivor
- In-Game Friends List — manage friends inside the game itself
- Friend codes — add players regardless of which store they bought the game on
Practical upshot: the store you buy it on does not decide who you can play with. A Steam player, a PS5 player, and an Xbox player can queue into the same 1v4 night in Haddonfield. Our game modes guide covers what those lobbies look like.
Does It Have Cross-Progression?
No — and this is the one to plan around. IllFonic explicitly confirmed that cross-progression is not supported, with no current plans for it. If you start on PC and later switch to PS5 (or the reverse), your progress does not come with you.
What Editions Are Available?
Two purchase tracks exist:
- Digital — the standard edition at $39.99, live since the September 8 launch on all platforms.
- Physical — a Standard edition and a Limited Collector’s Edition arrive at retail on October 6, 2026.
For collectors, the Collector’s Edition is the only physical way to get extras; for everyone else the digital edition is functionally identical and was available a month earlier.
Can You Play Early With Advance Access?
Players who pre-purchased the game got a window of Advance Access ahead of the full September 8 unlock — which is why you may have seen gameplay clips and guides appearing before launch day. Advance Access is a pre-order benefit, not a separate edition; once the game unlocked, everyone was on the same build.
Playing With Friends: The Quick Recipe
- Everyone buys on whichever store matches their platform — crossplay makes the choice free.
- Exchange friend codes and add each other on the in-game friends list.
- Set up a private match if you want a controlled lobby, or queue together into the online 1v4 mode.
If a term on this page was new — Advance Access, private matches, The Shape — the glossary defines all of them in one place.
