The story mode’s best-kept secret is audio. Scattered through all six chapters, Loomis Tapes play recordings that layer Dr. Loomis’ side of the hunt into Michael’s — and the game gives you a built-in tape detector: they are audible when you are within range. This page collects every confirmed tape location from launch-week 100% runs, chapter by chapter.

The One Trick That Finds Almost All of Them
Before the locations: the mechanic. Tapes loop their audio when you enter their range — the same collectible logic as Friday the 13th’s Pamela tapes. Practical routing:
- Clear side rooms as you pass them; most tapes sit a few seconds off the critical path.
- If you hear a looping voice with nobody around, that is the tape — walk toward it.
- Tapes are never on the main objective path; they are always a small detour.
Prologue — Smith’s Grove
The prologue hides multiple tapes along Michael’s escape:
- One sits right at the start of the level — grab it before moving with the objectives.
- A second is further along the escape route; if you ran past the side area it sits in, the audio cue will call you back.
Completion of the prologue’s six challenges is the bigger prize here — the full route is in our prologue challenges guide.
Chapters 1–2 — First Houses
- Chapter 1 introduces the house-search rhythm: check side rooms before following the objective marker.
- Chapter 2 hides a tape in a room off to the side of the main route, and another in the office — both a few steps from where the chapter’s resident objectives play out.
Chapter 3 — The Cemetery Side
- One tape is inside a house along the route; a second sits in the house north of the cemetery on the map. Both are quick detours while working the chapter’s challenge list.
Chapter 4 — The Laundry Room
- After clearing the house, a tape is chilling in the laundry room — grab it while positioned for the chapter’s hardest challenge windows (the tier-three stalk on the couple).
Chapter 5 — The Last Tapes
- Once inside the final house, a tape sits on a table near Laurie’s plot beats. Sweep the interior before following the story to the end.
Are They Worth It?
The tapes are the campaign’s lore layer — Loomis’ voice tracking Michael’s night — and the collectible completionists will want alongside the challenge grind that ends in the legendary 1978 look. If you are only here for multiplayer, the audio-cue habit still pays: it teaches the maps’ side-room geometry faster than any guide.
