The story mode is short — but its challenge layer is where the replay value lives. Six chapters, six optional challenges each, Loomis Tapes to collect, and a legendary reward for truly finishing everything. This page maps the whole gauntlet as documented by launch-week 100% completion runs.
Halloween: The Game — single player 100% (all chapters, challenges & Loomis Tapes)
How Do Story Challenges Work?
The rules, before the routes:
- Each of the six chapters has six optional challenges.
- Progress saves only when you finish the chapter. Quit or restart midway and the chapter’s challenge checklist resets — this catches almost everyone once.
- The chapter select screen tracks completion time, score, a star rating, and your highest-difficulty clear, so replays on harder settings have their own ladder.
- Rewards are cosmetics: alternate outfits and unique items per chapter, and the legendary 1978 Michael look for every single challenge in the campaign.
Prologue Challenges — Escape From Smith’s Grove
The prologue (“Escape From Smith’s Grove”) sets the template: six challenges, all completable in one careful run — each with a worked route in our full prologue walkthrough. Finishing the prologue also awards its own cosmetic keepsake. Here is every challenge with the route that works:
Terrify an orderly until he flees
Usually organic. If it has not triggered: grab an orderly, deliberately fail the struggle prompt, and drop him — he will bolt for the exit, and the challenge ticks when he escapes.
Execute three orderlies with your bare hands
Grab (left trigger on controller), then hit the execution button — no weapon. Three bare-handed executions, any orderlies.
Telephone pole execution
Near the end of the map, right beside the power box the mission tells you to shut off. Grab an orderly, walk to the pole, and take the environmental-execution prompt.
Throw an orderly to his death
Just past the pole: an orderly is shining a flashlight on a patient. Approach from behind, grab, walk him down the road to the throw icon, and let the animation finish it.
Escape undetected — the hard one
The infamous one. Walk, never run. Let each guard’s flashlight pattern pass, hide behind the ambulance, and wait out the patrols. If an NPC gets stuck on geometry, restart — that attempt is dead. At the road, move only when the walker turns toward the dead-end fence, then run for the hills and mash the final prompt.
Take out or run off all 12 orderlies
Oddly easier than #5 — the same opening route, but you eliminate each orderly instead of sneaking past. Orderlies who escape on their own still count toward the twelve.
Chapter Challenges 1–5 — What Each Chapter Asks
The five Haddonfield chapters escalate from warm-up towhite-knuckle. What launch 100% runs show:
| Chapter | Signature challenges | Watch-outs |
|---|---|---|
| Chapter 1 | Intro Haddonfield objectives; first Loomis Tape spots | Low pressure — learn the tape audio cue here |
| Chapter 2 | Three-resident objectives; a late challenge needing surprise kills | Community guides flag that all three kills must be undetected — no alarm |
| Chapter 3 | Eliminate Rachel’s friend group; the Gloria & Keith pairing; escape undetected | The cemetery-north house hides a tape; patience beats speed |
| Chapter 4 | The hardest set: a bloodthirsty execution at power level three, a tier-three double stalk on the two lovers, kill Bob unnoticed | Grab the laundry-room tape while waiting for the lovers’ scene |
| Chapter 5 | The film’s climax staging — follow Laurie’s plot beats to the end | A tape sits on a table right after you get inside |
Chapter names and routes come from 100% completion runs published during launch week; exact challenge wording varies slightly between runs, but the structure above is stable.
Loomis Tapes — The Audio Trail
Every tape location, chapter by chapter, is catalogued in our Loomis Tapes guide.
Every chapter hides Loomis Tapes — audio collectibles in the Friday the 13th tradition. The mechanic that makes them findable: they play sound when you are nearby. If you hear a voice looping somewhere off-path, walk toward it. Tapes are optional, they do not affect challenges, and completion videos catalog their per-chapter spots — but hunting them blind with the audio cue is the intended experience.
Why Bother? The 100% Reward
Chapter challenges pay out alternate outfits and unique cosmetics as you go, and the campaign-wide prize is the one the community grinds for: finish every single-player challenge and Michael gains his legendary 1978 original look — the classic mask, the classic night.
