Halloween: The Game layers a serious progression system over the 1v4 hunts — four parallel level tracks, hundreds of challenges in three flavors, and a prestige loop that costs resources to attempt. This page collects everything confirmed through IllFonic’s official progression overview and launch-window coverage, so you can plan which track to grind first.
Halloween: The Game — official progression and customization overview
What Are the Four Progression Levels?
Every match and story chapter feeds experience points into four separate tracks:
- Profile level — your account-wide level. All earned XP counts here no matter which role you play.
- Killer level — earned by playing the Boogeyman and terrorizing Haddonfield.
- Civilian level — tracked separately for each playable civilian character. Maining one survivor levels only that character.
- Weapon level — earned by dispatching victims with specific equippable weapons as Michael.
The per-character civilian split is the detail most players miss: your friend’s level 30 Laurie says nothing about their level on anyone else. Launch coverage shows level 100 as the prestige threshold on the killer and civilian tracks.
What Do Levels Unlock?
Climbing the tracks is not just a number. Confirmed unlock types include:
- Additional playable civilian characters
- New Michael abilities (see the perks guide for his traits and ability slots)
- Supplemental starting items for civilians
- Cosmetic rewards — skins, tints, and outfits
- New challenge tiers
- New executions
- Profile card pieces: icons, backgrounds, and titles
How Does Prestige Work?
Prestige is where Halloween: The Game departs from the usual grind-to-repeat loop:
- Reach level 100 in a track (killer or civilian — profile prestige is tracked separately).
- Attempt a prestige challenge — a timed objective, and you can only attempt one at a time.
- Complete it in time to advance your prestige level.
- Fail, and retrying costs perk points — the same currency that fuels the perk card rolls in the perks guide.
Launch coverage showed the system running through at least prestige level 5, and confirmed one headline reward: Prestige 2 on Michael unlocks the Clown Michael skin for players who did not receive it through the Collector’s Edition.
What Kinds of Challenges Exist?
IllFonic describes “hundreds of challenges” in three families:
- Passive challenges — split into categories for both roles and automatically tracked no matter which character you pick. Effectively rewards for time played.
- Progressive challenges — tied to specific civilian characters, Michael skins, and weapon types, completed in succession for rewards. Michael’s progressive sets shown in launch coverage include execution-count objectives, reaching stalk-tier markers on victims, and hiding-spot grabs — leaping out of a hiding spot to catch a survivor.
- Story challenges — every one of the six playable story chapters has optional challenges, rewarding alternate outfits and unique cosmetics. Completing every single-player challenge earns a legendary cosmetic look for Michael — the community’s white whale at launch.
Suggested Grinding Order
- Story challenges first — they’re finite, teach you Michael’s kit, and pay cosmetics (details in our game modes guide).
- Pick one civilian main — per-character levels mean split playtime slows every track.
- Bank perk points until you know whether you want legendary rolls or a prestige-retry safety net.
- Then prestige — one track at a time, starting with whichever role you win most in.
For the shared currency that ties all of this together, read the perks and perk cards guide. New terms? The glossary has you covered.
